OFSTED Registration Criteria

**Please note that whilst we try to provide helpful information about Ofsted, we are not able to help with Ofsted registration.**

In order to become registered with Ofsted a nanny needs to meet certain criteria:

  • Nanny needs to have public liability insurance
  • Nanny needs to have a valid paediatric first-aid certificate
  • Nanny needs to confirm that she has the Common Core skills and knowledge in childcare and that she is suitable to work with children. For further details on the Common Core Skills please refer to the Ofsted website or call Ofsted on 0300 123 1231. For details of Core Skills training courses run in your area, contact your local authority Family Information Services (FIS). They can provide information on the timing, location and cost of Core Skills training if required.
  • Nanny also needs to have a DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service; previously CRB (Criminial Records Bureau)) but this will be done as part of the registration process. Please note that even if nanny has already had a DBS check done, another one must be carried out (unless the previous check was obtained via Ofsted within the last three years).
