Hummingbird Homestaff is looking for an exceptional Housekeeper/Cook to join a wonderful private home near Mayfield, East Sussex.

This is a beautiful period property filled with antiques, fine furniture, artwork and treasured possessions, so we are looking for someone who really understands the care and attention these homes require.

THE ROLE

Three days a week:

Monday Wednesday Friday
9am–3pm
£130–£150 per visit, depending on experience

This is a long-term opportunity for the right person.

The home has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a granny flat and a wonderful mix of reception rooms, including a drawing room, library, orangery, dining room, snug and gym.

There are also some less-used areas of the house which are looked after on a weekly basis.

Every day is slightly different, but the role will include:

High-standard housekeeping throughout the home
Caring for antiques, gilt, marble, fine furniture, silver and artwork
Laundry, ironing and caring for beautiful linens and delicate clothing
Making beds and keeping bedrooms beautifully presented
Moth prevention and checking wardrobes, textiles and soft furnishings
Preparing delicious family meals ready for the evening
Occasional informal entertaining
Watering flowers and house plants
Provisioning, errands, deliveries and postal collections
Keeping the home organised, calm and beautifully maintained

A LITTLE ABOUT THE COOKING

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys cooking.

Nothing overly formal or fussy — just delicious, well-prepared family food that can be made ready for the evening, with occasional informal entertaining.

If you're equally happy with a beautiful roast, a delicious pasta dish or creating something lovely from what's in the fridge, we'd love to hear from you!

THIS HOME NEEDS SOMEONE SPECIAL

Experience in a private household, heritage property, National Trust, English Heritage or similar environment would be highly desirable.

You will need to be confident caring for valuable and delicate items and understand that every surface, fabric and antique may need a different approach.

Attention to detail is essential.

We are looking for someone who is:

• A confident cook
• Comfortable working around antiques and valuable possessions
• Happy working independently
• Someone who takes genuine pride in their work
• Fluent in English

✔ A full right to work in the UK
✔ Enhanced DBS
✔ Excellent, checkable private household references
✔ No smoking or vaping
✔ Absolute discretion — including no photography inside the home
