Hummingbird Homestaff is recruiting on behalf of a friendly family in Cobham who are seeking an experienced, reliable, and proactive Housekeeper / Family Assistant to join their household from September.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys maintaining a well-organised home and takes pride in delivering a high standard of housekeeping while providing additional support to help the household run smoothly. The family is looking for a warm, positive individual with a flexible, can-do attitude who is happy to assist wherever needed.
Hours
The family can offer between 20 and 30 hours per week, depending on the successful candidate's experience and willingness to undertake the wider family assistant aspects of the role.
For a broader role (approximately 30 hours per week):
- 3–4 days per week
- Typically between 10:30am–6:00pm or 11:30am–7:00pm
For a housekeeping-focused role (approximately 20 hours per week):
- Ideally worked across Mondays and Thursdays or Fridays
Key Responsibilities
Housekeeping & Home Management
- Maintaining a clean, tidy, and organised family home
- Deep cleaning kitchens and bathrooms twice weekly
- Vacuuming and cleaning floors throughout the property
- Following instructions regarding the appropriate use of cleaning products on specialist surfaces, including marble, brass, and wood
- Monitoring household supplies and notifying when stock requires replenishment
- Loading and unloading the dishwasher and putting items away correctly
- Keeping kitchen cupboards clean, organised, and well maintained
- Unpacking and storing grocery deliveries
- Managing household waste and recycling
- Stripping and remaking beds as required
- Helping to keep children's play areas organised and tidy
Laundry
- Washing, drying, folding, ironing, and putting away household laundry
- Organising clothing and linens appropriately
- Ensuring delicate and specialist-care items are handled correctly
Food Preparation
- Assisting with meal preparation, including ingredient preparation and chopping
- Preparing simple meals for the children
- Batch cooking basic family meals such as lasagne, spaghetti bolognese, and pasta bakes for freezing
- Carefully following instructions regarding children's dietary requirements and food allergies
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will:
- Have previous housekeeping experience within a private household
- Be warm, friendly, professional, and trustworthy
- Have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Be proactive and able to work independently
- Speak and understand English confidently
- Be comfortable following household routines and instructions
- Take pride in maintaining exceptionally high standards
Desirable
- Experience working with children or within a family household
- A full UK driving licence
- Willingness to assist with occasional school runs
- Ability to provide occasional childcare support when required
- Knowledge of food allergies and basic first aid
