Our recruitment process
Our recruitment process: knowing who to recommend
Finding your ideal housekeeper alone is tricky – let us help you.
Once you have contacted Hummingbird Home Staff, we will discuss your housekeeping requirements with you. Are you looking for a part-time housekeeper, or would you prefer someone to live-in to take care of every aspect of your home? No matter your needs, however small or large, we will find someone for you.
This consultation can be over the phone or during a home visit if you prefer. From this, we can advise you on the options available and type of housekeeper you need, and we will start to look for the candidates that best suit you.
Meeting our candidates
Where possible, we meet all the housekeepers who register with us face to face so we can be sure of their qualifications, experience, and references, and to understand what their requirements are for their next role.
It also gives us the chance to get know them better as a person and to see the things that a CV does not show you. From this, we write a short profile that will add some colour to the CV and can help when deciding if you would like to progress them for an interview.
Experience and qualifications
Ideally, we like our candidates to have a minimum of 3 years' experience. However, sometimes we come across outstanding individuals who started in housekeeping with no training and have built a strong career based on common sense, hard work and a love of the job over the years.
We will look at the individual and recommend them to you if we feel they have enough experience to be able to fulfil the role. They will also need to have excellent references from previous employer working within the same or similar role.
Nanny-housekeepers will have to have experience both with children and working within a household as a housekeeper. They will need the qualifications needed to work with children and the right work ethic to do the housekeeping role, as not all nannies want to take on housework that goes beyond the children’s needs.
We expect our housekeepers to have a current Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check or to have one in process to be completed before they start with their new family. They will also have to supply full written references from previous employers, which will then be checked and verified by us.
Choosing your perfect housekeeper
Once you have reviewed the information sent to you and decided on who to meet, Hummingbird Home Staff will arrange the interview with the candidate for you at a time and place that suits you best.
It’s important to have a natural chemistry between the housekeeper and the family and only you will know if it ‘feels right’. This person will be working in your home and around your family, and it is crucial that the chemistry between you and your housekeeper is there from the start.
After you have interviewed them, we will be in contact to receive your feedback on the housekeeper you have met. They will also provide their feedback and if there is a potential match between family and candidate.
Should you both feel positively, then we would suggest a second meeting to discuss the role in more depth.
Once you have decided to offer the position to someone, Hummingbird Home Staff will be on hand to help with the offer of employment, looking at potential start dates and advising you on the next steps that you need to take to get everything in place.
